Jessica Bender: Megalodon Jaw Science Communication in Art ClassiDigBio is a collection of digitally scanned fossils available for reproduction by educators and researchers. I would like to help my students create a life-sized 3D printed megalodon jaw, based on actual fossils. My Art 1 students would learn about the crossover between visual arts and science involved in museum curation while creating an accurate model jaw for display in our science wing. More specifically, my students would understand that color can be scientifically valid in species id, and in paleontology color can be indicative of matrix composition. Learning about museum curation and restoration practices brings a more technical perspective into the creative arts classroom and provides a counterpoint to teaching about the emotional and creative impacts of color in art. This project also brings an engaging charismatic species into our classroom and creates a sense of curiosity about science, technology (3D printing), and museum careers in a novel setting.

Laurel Garceau: Comprehensible Input for World LanguagesThere is a "new" method of teaching World Language called Comprehensible Input and one of the parts of it is having students read in the target language. We are also hoping to do Project Based Learning, where we come up with an Essential Question and have the students research it, discuss it, and come up with a solution, all in the target language.

I am creating a project to engage and empower at-risk youth who have been released by the District. Many of them have difficulty managing critical life areas which has created problems at school, work and in their own relationships. This program is designed to help in four key areas: 1. The student self-explore and develop their own personal strengths; 2. Key conflict resolution skills; 3. Learn key business skills directly relate to becoming successful in a
professional work environment; 4. I-O (Industrial Organizational) Psychology will give them the applied skills to understand business dynamics. This project will create a new program that integrates all of these key areas. It utilizes multimedia technology to foster high student engagement and rapid learning.

Create your own business is a goal shared by many people, of all ages. It is exciting but can also be a daunting task. Many questions plague people. By students realizing their own potential, it will create a wealth of knowledge to empower them to pursue creating their own business by doing something that they enjoy doing and know they are great at it! Realizing that they alone are responsible for their business, they know they need to concentrate on details, looking for their competition, marketing the benefits their business provides, attending workshops to grow their business, networking with like minded individuals, as well as realizing their talent from people praising them for that special quality they excel in. There are massive amounts of information available on the Internet, from steps to take to create a business, to setting up a business plan, plus creating advertising material to market their business.

Kelly Donohue, Courtney Jasiulek, Rachael Bradley, Amanda Borges: Digital Art & Graphic Design TechnologyWe have both student and teacher interest in having graphic design and digital art classes, yet we lack the technology to provide these lessons/ classes. With this grant, we hope to begin a pilot program to introduce graphic design lessons that could be scaled up to design a new curriculum or course that is relevant to today's art and design careers. The first year (completed by May,) would include training students in how to use the tools and 1 - 2 unit plans that connect to relevant projects in graphic/digital design careers.

Dean Lorenzo, Winnie Tung, Sameen Shoenhair: Using Cutting-Edge Technology to Increase Students' Achievement and MotivationOne of the biggest challenges we have as educators is to ensure that our students are actively engaged within our courses. During discussions, students may not want to vocalize their ideas if they are not confident in their own personal abilities. Our project will provide our population with the proper tools and training for our instructors to foster the growth of confidence to our student population. While using this tool, educators can receive live data from their students that only the teacher will be able to access. This will increase our students' confidence because students who choose not to vocalize in class, still have an opportunity to participate digitally. Teachers can look at the given data and provide support for all students if we are now receiving data from all students.
